With Querencia, artist Kim Rose presents a work rooted in intimacy, transformation, and the invisible architecture of trust between artist and collector. Drawing its unique form from a location held secret—known only to the collector—Querencia embodies a sense of place that transcends geography, becoming a vessel for personal significance and emotional resonance.

Initially conceived in a different direction, the painting underwent a radical metamorphosis as Rose, sensing a lack of vitality in the original proposal, paused the process and returned to the studio in pursuit of a more authentic vision. What was expected to be a brief interlude became a month-long period of creative excavation—an intense yet reflective chapter of experimentation, ideation, and exploration. Within this temporal stretch, Rose confronted the dual nature of the artistic process: one that demands both velocity and stillness, discipline and surrender.

As in much of Rose’s practice, Querencia emerged through a dialogue between physical labor and contemplative quiet. The artist likens this balance to the rhythm of physical training—where rest is not absence, but integral to the making. And like the slow build of unseen muscle, the conceptual layers of Querencia gathered force off-canvas, eventually manifesting in a work that is, by Rose’s own measure, both physically demanding and emotionally expansive.
