Layered pure 24k gold from Thailand, ink, mounted on metal

Ñeque means strength, vitality, vigor. She is a mixture of the sea with the strength of marble. Accented with the purest 24k gold imported from Thailand. Not only the most expensive gold, but also gold that is rich in culture and tradition. Gold that has not only been used by kings, but gold that is also spiritual. Ñeque has pushed the boundaries of what is possible in art by fuzing new techniques created by Kim. The details are endless, and demand to be admired and studied.

The piece is composed of layers that imitate broken marble. The broken cracks are healed with gold accents, inspired by kintsugi. Kintsugi - meaning “golden seams” or “golden repair” - is a lavish technique created four or five centuries ago in Japan. Artisans used gold pigments to repair shattered vessels back together. Once repaired, the new pieces were stronger now than they were before being broken. This technique is still used to this day. For me, it was a beautiful representation of healing brokenness & coming back stronger than before”. - Kim
